Peter Foynes retires from the Butter Museum
June 24th, 2025
They say: ‘change is inevitable’, but all the same, we were all very reluctant to ’embrace the change’ that saw Peter Foynes retire as Director of the Museum last week. As our chairperson Margaret Cashman noted in her paraphrasing of Myles na gCopaleen: “Peter was part of the Museum, and the Museum was part of Peter”. Peter took the Museum from the early years of uncertainty in the 1990’s right through to the success of today, implementing changes that enabled the Museum to become one of Cork city’s premier visitor attractions and cultural heritage centres. We wish Peter a long, healthy and happy retirement.
